Beginners Course:
Learn How to Code and Build Internet of Things Devices

In this workshop we will explore the fundamentals behind computer programming to give you a basic understanding of how to successfully develop software project. We’ll look at how a program works, how it’s assembled and what it can do. We’ll then use this new learning to build our own Internet of Things devices by connecting coding with electronics and the Internet.
1. Computer Programming

    a) Introduction to computer programming (15-min)
        i. Fundamentals
        ii. Desktop web and mobile applications
   b) Exercise (15-min)
   c) Exploring common languages and scripting (30-min)
       i. HTTP/CSS
       ii. Javascript
       iii. JQuery
       iv. PHP
       v. Python
       vi. Ruby on Rail
   d) Exercise (15-min)

2. BREAK (15-min)
3. Internet of Things

    a) Introduction to the Internet of Things (15-min)
    b) Exercise (15-min)
    c) Exploring IFTTT - If This Then That (15-min)
    d) Exercise (15-min)
    e) Build your own IoT device (15-min)

4. Debriefing (15-min)

Learning outcome:

After this workshop you should be able to explain the fundamentals of modern computer programming - from building blocks to how to design a software program or application. You should also understand how to build your own Internet of Things device by using basic coding skills, electronics and cloud-based services.

Refunds, excluding a $25 processing fee, will be granted only if requests are received by 4A’s in writing by Monday, June 13, 2016. No refunds will be allowed after this date; substitutions will be allowed provided arrangements are made with 4A’s.
